A “Who Owns What?” transparency app follows that chain for any company and shows it in one glance: who really owns it, how much the CEO is paid, how much it spends lobbying, and how much influence that money buys.
People want it because knowledge is the first step to leverage. Journalists use ownership chains to sniff out conflicts of interest; voters use lobbying spend to understand which bills get written; shoppers use them to decide whether their dollars quietly fund something they oppose. Right now that research means digging through registries, filings, and databases — the app would collapse it to one search box.
